American Association for Laboratory Accreditation

Reference Material Producer

Accreditation Program

The A2LA Accreditation Program for Reference Material Producers is designed for producers of reference materials and certified reference materials who wish to demonstrate their competence by formal compliance with a set of internationally-recognized criteria. The program also provides users of reference materials, such as testing and calibration laboratories, with increased confidence that the reference materials being relied upon are being produced in accordance with specified technical and management system requirements and are of appropriate quality. A2LA now requires that its accredited testing and calibration laboratories procure and use reference materials from an accredited reference material producer.

On November 1, 2016, ISO 17034:2016 became publicly available. The Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) has implemented a three-year transition period from the date of publication. As such, all APLAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) signatories (which includes A2LA) must have all of their Reference Material Producers (RMPs) accredited to ISO 17034:2016 no later than November 1, 2019. Please refer to R304 - Transition Memorandum for information regarding A2LA's transition plan.

A2LA has been accrediting reference material producers for over a decade as demonstrated by our first accreditation, granted in November 2000.
